The 1.5–4.0 mm 5052 aluminum sheet with salt spray resistant chromate-free passivation is the preferred marine-grade alloy worldwide for boat decks, gunwales, bulwarks, transoms, cockpit soles, console structures, hatch covers, ladder treads and non-structural marine accessories.
With Mg content 2.2–2.8%, 5052 (H116/H321 temper) is classified as a high-strength non-heat-treatable marine alloy and offers:
Outstanding resistance to seawater, salt spray & marine atmosphere
High fatigue strength & toughness for dynamic wave & impact loads
Excellent weldability (TIG/MIG) without post-weld heat treatment
Chromate-free passivation → environmentally compliant surface protection during fabrication & storage
Surface options:Mill finish — clean, ready for welding/painting,Chromate-free passivation — thin inorganic conversion layer (chromium-free) for enhanced corrosion protection & paint adhesion

Q1: Why choose 5052 over 5083 or 5454 for boat deck & accessories?
A: 5052 offers excellent marine corrosion resistance and anodizing quality while being 15–25% cheaper and easier to form than 5083/5454. It is the sweet spot for non-structural decking, gunwales & accessories where high strength is needed without the cost of 5083.
Q2: What is the typical corrosion performance of 5052 in seawater?
A: Exceptional – no pitting or exfoliation corrosion in seawater after long-term exposure. Passes 5000+ h acetic acid salt spray (ASTM G85) and real seawater immersion tests. Chromate-free passivation adds extra protection during fabrication.
Q3: Can 5052 be welded without post-weld heat treatment?
A: Yes – 5052 is designed for welding without PWHT. Uses 5356 or 4043 filler for matching strength. High fatigue resistance in welded joints. We provide qualified welding procedures (WPS/PQR) per DNV/BV/ABS standards.
Q4: Minimum order quantity & lead time for certified plates?
A: MOQ 3–5 tons (depending on thickness/width); standard certified plates 20–35 days; custom width or passivation 35–45 days. Mill test certificates (DNV/BV) with every shipment.
Q5: How does 5052 perform in low-temperature / polar marine environments?
A: Outstanding – no ductile-to-brittle transition down to –196 °C. Excellent toughness & impact resistance in Arctic & Antarctic service. Low-temperature impact test data available.
Q6: Is 5052 suitable for above-waterline deck & accessories only or full hull?
A: Both – 5052 H116/H321 is approved for full hull plating (below & above waterline) in high-speed vessels, workboats & ferries when thickness is appropriate. For very thick hull plating (>30 mm) 5083/5086 grades are preferred; 1.5–4.0 mm is optimal for decking, gunwales & accessories.
